Listed in the national heritage inventory
Overview
Between Rue d’Agadir, Rue de Tripoli, Rue Zerhoun and Rue de Bagdad, this housing estate is now known as the Cité Maréchal Améziane. Built from 1949 to 1953 by the Office Chérifien des Logements Militaires, to designs by the architect Maurice Galamand, it was first called Cité Maréchal Foch, then Cité Maréchal Lyautey. Its five buildings hold more than two hundred flats of two to five rooms: two T-shaped ten-storey blocks and two six-storey blocks frame three garden courtyards, the one opening onto Rue de Tripoli being closed by a row of shops.
To the north and east, the service rooms sit behind a continuous screen of claustra, which gives the estate its character and comes alive at night with electric light.
