Current use Synagogue
Listed in the national heritage inventory
Overview
On Rue Jaber Ibn Hayane, Temple Beth-El was inaugurated in 1949 by Jewish families of Algerian origin, hence its other name, the “Algerian Temple”. Behind a restrained façade, the prayer hall, which seats some 500 worshippers, brings together carved plaster, chandeliers and coloured stained glass inspired by Marc Chagall. Refurbished in the late 1990s, the synagogue remains a place of worship for Casablanca’s Jewish community; it has been listed as national heritage since 2023.
