Overview

On Boulevard Mohammed V, facing the Central Market, the Bessonneau building, known as the Hôtel Lincoln, is being rehabilitated as a hotel. It was built from 1917 to 1919 to designs by the architect Hubert Bride for Julien Bessonneau, on what was then the Boulevard de la Gare. Over three storeys it combined some sixty apartments, shops, a bathhouse and a hotel that opened in 1920 and was renamed Hôtel Lincoln in 1950.

Its classically ordered façade carries Neo-Moorish decoration: horseshoe and polylobed arches, stucco surrounds and carved corbels. Its façades have been listed as national heritage since 2000; left derelict, the building partly collapsed in 2009, and the works begun in 2021 are to turn it into a 120-room hotel.
